Harmony: An Indigenous Sonoran Desert Experience at S’edav Va’aki Museum

In the Fall 2026 issue of Edible Phoenix, Jeffrey writes about the chefs, heritage crops, and Indigenous food traditions at the heart of Harmony, the museum foundation’s culinary fundraiser.

As both the article’s writer and the event’s co-chair, he brings cultural storytelling and community leadership to the same table.

The article follows the connections between Ramona Farms, Arizona chefs, and the Sonoran Desert, sharing how a meal can carry stories of land, memory, and living food traditions.

What we carry home
from a walk in the desert.

Desert Botanical Garden · October 11, 2026

After the rain, creosote scented the air and the desert stirred with new life. Jeffrey welcomed Dandy Magazine’s visiting French media group for a morning of plant stories, Indigenous knowledge, and conversations that traveled far beyond the garden paths.

“I told them the plants are relatives, not scenery.”Jeffrey Lazos-Ferns, from his reflection on the walk

At the gate, each guest left with a creosote bundle: a small way to carry the desert home. What stays with us when a two-hour walk becomes a meeting between worlds?
